The key to buy low sell high is knowing the prices. I like to sit in LA and droks for 30min or so to see what the prices are (the high & low) before i buy or sell anything. Also know where to look (Asc. is low Droks is mid & LA is high price range) so most of the time i buy in Asc then resell in Droks or LA for a little profit. And it does help to know what ppl are into at the moment(what skin ,weapon and so on. hope this helps

I would imagine to get into this sort of thing, you would need funds to start buying with. Can anyone suggest an good amount of gold to start with if you plan on getting into power-selling?

You use what you got and when you only got a small amount of gold you buy cheaper things. there is no real differance from high power selling to low power selling just the price.

I suggest going to the Ventari's Sell forum section. Check out ALL the subforums for an idea of prices and what the popular items are. Keep them bookmarked for quick reference. There are whole threads dedicated to popular weapon skins, baseline green pricing, mods etc. Very useful.

Horde. No; I'm not talking about minions. Certain items hold value with only small fluctuations in price. Buy them when they are on the downward spiral and sellt hem when they peak in the upper ranges. 2 do this well, you will need 1, probably 2 storage toons; characters created just for the extra bags.
Items like craft, rare craft, perfect mods or Black dye are excellent money makers over the long term. these items are ALWYS in demand, to some extent, and someone is always desperate to get them for less than the merchant is offering. Know Trader prices first and formost when you do this, so you can squeeze as much profit as possible from the materials. No1 will buy from you at straight up trader prices, but you might be surprised how many folks will buy from you for just a little bit less.
Try to buy them from people who have been spamming for a while (sadly, many people go to Ascalon and newb areas to take advantage of inexperienced players. it works, but leaves little room for scruples); they may be willing to take a loss to get back to farming. Mods and rare skins keep their prices better than greens, which become overfarmed quickly and lose value. If you can get a green on the cheap, don't horde it for this very reason. Over time, it depreciates as the people who want it, get it.
Best advice I can give if you want to buy low, sell high: never get imaptient. Thats how other people--the rich folks who "buy low/sell high"--make money. Off YOU.

Personally if you want to be rich. You always got to be the first. The first few days of Factions, Amber was selling for 10k each! I made nearly 250,000 just by faction farming the duel and trading Amber to the impatient players. Jade Wind Orbs were another great deal. Trust me, be the first and you can set the price. Now that you have the knowledge of being first, you need to understand that its very unprofitable to buy something right when it comes out. Wait a week, it'll go down in price.

Rare materials is a great way to "buy low/sell high." You can get parchment crafted for 20g + 5 wood (= 60g or so) and sell it for 85 - 100g. There are other materials you can get made on the cheap, too. The trick is to know which ones they are.

I'm pretty sure that parchment no longer sells for anywhere near 100 to other players.

I stood in Drok's for about half an hour while I did some work.. I bought 3 Totem axes in that time: 5k, 5k, 5.5k. - Sold them for 7k, 7.5k, & 8k.
Instant 7k.

Buying low and selling high eh? I didn't really see a point in doing that in GW unless it was some major thing (ectos, shards, etc.). It is easy enough to go out and kill some mobs solo and sell the junk that drops to make a decent amount of money fairly fast. If you must do this, just avoid LA with a fiery passion :P LA = bot paradise, scammer paradise, and over all "U BAI NOW FOR 1000 ectos!!!!1" place

Unless in an extreme case (newbie with a crystalline for 50g?), the money you make goes as far as what you start with. You're better off farming something for 20k/hour than earning 10k profit in an hour than trading with your 20k. I suggest to start with farming (see Ractoh's Spider farming guide in Riverside Province section) to get your initial, then play with your money from there.
